How much data the SIM uses

This is what decides whether the data plan pays off or eats you. Enter how often the device reports and we tell you the monthly usage.

150 bytes is a reasonable estimate for a position report including connection overhead. If your device sends sensors or photos, raise it.

What real devices actually do

Not theory: this is what we measured on our own platform on 16 August 2026, on real devices that reported within 24 hours. Click a protocol to use its rate.

Careful with the cheapest planMachine (M2M) plans are sold by megabytes per month and are usually 1, 5 or 10 MB. A device reporting every 10 seconds eats 10 MB without breaking a sweat: do the maths before you sign, not after.

And while you are here: this is what we do

Appogio is a white-label GPS tracking platform. We do not sell the service to the end customer: we rent it to people who want to sell it under their own name. You bring the brand, the domain and the price. We bring the infrastructure and the engineering: the servers the devices report to, the continuous work of keeping 246 different protocols current, and the development of the panel and the apps. You do not set up servers or hire developers.

Frequently asked questions

How much data does a GPS SIM use in a month?

Far less than people assume: a tracker sending a position every minute lives in the tens of megabytes a month. The calculator on this page estimates it from your reporting rate.

So what data plan should I put in?

The smallest one you can find is usually more than enough for tracking. What matters is not the size of the plan but that the line does not get suspended: a suspended SIM is the number one cause of a silent GPS.

Does video use the same?

Nowhere near. An on-board camera consumes orders of magnitude more than a tracker, and that is the mistake that costs the most money: quoting video on a tracking data plan.

Should I use a normal SIM or an M2M one?

The M2M one is built for this: small plans, a low price per line and fewer suspension surprises. Across many units, the difference shows up on the invoice.
