The OpenGTS protocol

OpenGTS is not a device either: it is an <strong>open-source tracking platform</strong>, the first one built for fleets, written in Java with a MySQL database. It ships its own format, OpenDMTP, which is why it shows up as a protocol.

The device reports to the OpenGTS server. If a customer arrives from there, <strong>the hardware does not need replacing</strong>: you change the address it reports to, as in any migration.

Which port it comes in onOur server listens for the OpenGTS protocol on port 6159. That is the port you set on the device, together with the server address. Point it somewhere else and the data still leaves, but the server cannot read it.
Careful with what other sites tell youIt is free to license, not free to run. It needs <strong>Java, MySQL, a web server and someone who can administer Linux</strong>, and the project has been dormant for years. Whoever arrives escaping that is not shopping on price: they want to stop being the administrator of their own server.
