The GPS SmartSole protocol

The protocol of the GPS SmartSole, which is not a vehicle device: it is a <strong>tracker built into a shoe insole</strong>. It was created for people with dementia, Alzheimer's or autism who become disoriented and leave home alone.

The insole is trimmed to the shoe size and charged like a phone. It reports its position every few minutes over the cellular network, so <strong>it carries its own data line</strong>, like any other unit.

Which port it comes in onOur server listens for the GPS SmartSole protocol on port 6178. That is the port you set on the device, together with the server address. Point it somewhere else and the data still leaves, but the server cannot read it.
Careful with what other sites tell youTwo warnings decide whether the service works at all. First, <strong>if nobody charges it, it does not exist</strong>: the daily charging routine is part of the service you are selling, not the customer's detail. And second, this is tracking a person, not a truck: <strong>confirm consent and who is allowed to see that location</strong> before opening the account.
