Who you sell it to: operations at high latitudes or in areas where the coverage of a single system is patchy. That is where a second navigation system genuinely earns its place.

What it earns you: little in Latin America, where dual navigation adds almost nothing over a GPS-only device. Say that to the customer instead of selling it as an advantage — the one who later discovers he paid for something he never needed does not come back, and the one who sees you talk down your own selling point does trust you.

What to watch: availability and spares outside its home market, and the fact that the manufacturer also runs its own platform. Buy the device and keep it reporting to your platform: the service brand has to be yours.
