The Globalstar protocol

The protocol of devices reporting over the Globalstar satellite network, a US operator that also builds the hardware. It works where <strong>no mobile antenna reaches</strong>.

It is spoken by the SmartOne, SmartOne C and STX3. They report less often on purpose: every satellite message is paid for, so they are configured per event rather than by continuous reporting.

Which port it comes in onOur server listens for the Globalstar protocol on port 6185. That is the port you set on the device, together with the server address. Point it somewhere else and the data still leaves, but the server cannot read it.
Careful with what other sites tell youThe satellite link cost is recurring and far above a SIM. Build it into your price from day one and explain that <strong>you cannot ask for a position every minute</strong>: the first month's invoice eats the contract.

That is what it is for: it reports over the Globalstar satellite network, not the mobile network. It is the answer to «there's no signal out there».

How much does the satellite service cost?

It is charged by subscription and per message, not by data plan, so it is considerably dearer. Build it into your price from day one.

Can I ask for a position every minute?

Not viable: every satellite message is paid for. These devices are configured per event, not by continuous reporting.
