The H02 protocol

A text protocol very common in low-cost Chinese trackers, especially those sold for motorcycles and private vehicles.

It runs as plain text over mobile data and is configured by SMS, like the Cobans. It is simple, which is why it gets copied so much.

Which port it comes in onOur server listens for the H02 protocol on port 6013. That is the port you set on the device, together with the server address. Point it somewhere else and the data still leaves, but the server cannot read it.
Careful with what other sites tell youBecause it is so widely copied, two devices from different brands can both speak H02 and still behave differently in the details. Test the specific device before selling a whole batch.

Frequently asked questions

Which devices speak H02?

It is a protocol from the first wave of Chinese trackers, seen mostly in budget vehicle and motorcycle devices. It circulates under several different brands, so the name on the box does not tell you whether it speaks it — the model does.

My device says H02 but it does not report — is it the protocol?

Almost never. In order of likelihood: the data line suspended, the APN set wrong, lack of coverage, a loose connector, and last of all the device. Eight out of ten cases are solved in the first three without going near the vehicle.

Is it an old protocol? Should I stay with it?

It is still handled without any problem. What is worth checking is not the protocol but the network: much of this installed base is 2G, and that network has a switch-off date in every country.
