The SinoTrack protocol

The protocol of SinoTrack devices, a Chinese manufacturer from Shenzhen in the market since 2008. Its part numbers are among the cheapest available, which is why you see so many on motorcycles and private cars.

It is spoken by the ST family — ST-901, ST-903, ST-906, ST-915. It is configured by text message, with the SIM's APN and the server address.

Careful with what other sites tell youIn this range quality varies between batches and copies circulate. <strong>Test one unit before buying a hundred</strong>, and confirm the network generation: this is where most leftover 2G equipment is still floating around.

Why did my SinoTrack stop reporting?

In order: the data line suspended, the APN set wrong, lack of coverage, a loose connector, and last of all the device. Eight out of ten cases are solved in the first three.

Is it suitable for a company fleet?

Not really. In this range quality varies between batches, and one failure in a fleet costs the whole account, not one device.
