The SPOT protocol

Globalstar's satellite device line built for people and assets in remote places: SPOT Trace, SPOT Gen3 and SPOT Gen4. Several carry an <strong>emergency button</strong> that alerts rescue services.

They report by satellite, without depending on the mobile network. The rate is configurable and every message counts, so it is used per event: it moved, the button was pressed, the state changed.

Which port it comes in onOur server listens for the SPOT protocol on port 6156. That is the port you set on the device, together with the server address. Point it somewhere else and the data still leaves, but the server cannot read it.
Careful with what other sites tell you<strong>Never promise a rescue.</strong> You sell an alert, not an emergency service. Make crystal clear in the contract what the device does and does not do, because that is where the liability sits.

What is the difference between SPOT and a normal tracker?

SPOT reports by satellite, not over the mobile network, and several models carry an emergency button. It is used where no antenna reaches.

Does the emergency button call a rescue?

It alerts rescue services, but you sell the alert, not the rescue. Put it in writing in the contract: that is where the liability sits.
