The Thuraya protocol

The protocol of devices reporting over the <strong>Thuraya satellite network</strong>, covering much of Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. It is an alternative to Iridium and Globalstar depending on where the customer operates.

It is spoken by devices such as the Thuraya T2M and the SF2500. Like all satellite work it is used per event rather than continuous reporting: every message is paid for.

Which port it comes in onOur server listens for the Thuraya protocol on port 6242. That is the port you set on the device, together with the server address. Point it somewhere else and the data still leaves, but the server cannot read it.
Careful with what other sites tell you<strong>Confirm coverage over the customer's actual area first.</strong> Satellite networks do not cover the same ground: Thuraya does not reach all of the Americas, and committing before checking is the expensive mistake here.

Does Thuraya cover the Americas?

Not all of it. Its coverage is over Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Confirm the customer's actual area before committing: it is the expensive mistake in satellite work.

How does it differ from Iridium?

Iridium covers the entire planet, poles included; Thuraya covers a region. The choice depends on where the customer operates, not on price.

Can I ask for continuous position?

No. As with all satellite, every message is paid for: it is configured per event.
