The Iridium protocol

The protocol of devices reporting over the <strong>Iridium satellite network</strong>, which covers the whole planet, poles included. It is the answer when there is no mobile antenna for hundreds of kilometres.

It is spoken by modules such as the RockBLOCK, the Iridium 9603 and the T622. They are used per event — it moved, it left a zone, its state changed — not by continuous reporting.

Which port it comes in onOur server listens for the Iridium protocol on port 6248. That is the port you set on the device, together with the server address. Point it somewhere else and the data still leaves, but the server cannot read it.
Careful with what other sites tell youEvery satellite message is paid for, and the link is a <strong>high, recurring monthly cost</strong>. Build it into your price from day one and explain that asking for a position every minute is not viable: the first month's invoice eats the contract.
